I don’t know about you but I hate these energy saving light bulbs we are all encouraged to use these days. They don’t throw out enough light for me and it seems I’m not the only one who thinks that way.
Several people have started stockpiling the old traditional ones whilst they are still available. Apparently by the end of 2011 you won’t be able to find any in the shops.
The traditional light bulbs give out spots of light with a high contrast, and although the new ones supposedly have an 80% energy saving, they take a long time to warm up and their diffused light is very difficult to read by. It’s also quite dangerous for anyone with impaired vision as they need good lighting to stay safe.
You can’t dim them, and several people have complained of getting headaches when they use them. However, by far the most concerning thing is if they shatter, energy saving light bulbs are very difficult to dispose of.
Did you know they contain toxic mercury?
I hate that stuff.
Anyway, like fluorescent tubes, these new low energy bulbs will be “hazardous waste” and should be recycled as the mercury makes them too dangerous to dump with the general rubbish.
Now, I have a particular interest in mercury - at least mercury poisoning, and No, I didn’t get it from low energy light bulbs or fluorescent tubes, although you might be surprised how many places it turns up.
I got my mercury poisoning from the amalgam fillings in my teeth and Yes, I have written a book about it – two actually as I associate mercury with my son’s autism too.
In the second book I reveal the true stories of several people who kindly told me how much they’d suffered, and how they’d been misdiagnosed and labelled as hypochondriacs before the truth finally came out.
One of the ladies mentioned in the book smokes. She went to a dentist last week and he asked if she was concerned about the cadmium she was taking in her body by smoking. She replied she was aware of it, but it was her choice, and then challenged him to answer whether he was concerned about the mercury he was putting into people every time he placed an amalgam filling.
She expected him to deny there was a problem as that has been the dental stance for years, but he amazed her by saying he knew mercury leaked out of fillings, that it settled in certain organs of the body like the liver, lungs, kidney and brain, but there was no evidence it did any harm.
I think she should have directed him to The Smoking Tooth Video
Mercury is bad news. You do not want it in your body - wherever it comes from, as “Joe” will tell you… Mercury Poisoning – It’s Not In Our Heads Any More (my video!)
Now, if you watched that, here’s a link to an article you might want to also read.
It begins:-
When Mary Stephenson began suffering depression shortly after giving birth to her first child, it was the start of four decades of mental anguish. Every anti-depressant and therapy was tried, with no effect, and her condition became steadily worse.
When she began to harm herself two years ago she was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and taken into a secure unit. Doctors were baffled by her condition, labelling her “a conundrum”.
It was a chance remark by a family friend that finally led to an unusual course of treatment, and the one which Mary believes has cured her.
Her family from Lymington in Hampshire are convinced she was suffering mercury poisoning from the fillings in her teeth.
